Stressed-out yeast do not pass GO

Using microfluidics and imaging, Dr. Argüello-Miranda’s latest work monitors the response of individual yeast cells to nutrient withdrawal. They discovered that cells arrest not only in the early G1 phase as expected, but also later in the cell cycle, and that Xbp1 is critical for arrest at other cell cycle phases; see Spotlight article in Journal of Cell Biology by Dr. Hilary Coller.
